The police have the power to deal with unnecessary obstructions, although responding to this type of complaint is sometimes a low priority when compared to other demands on their time.
The white bar marking is reserved for essential sites where there is a persistent problem.
Anyone who applies for this facility is required to provide evidence of dates, times and registration numbers of vehicles causing an obstruction over at least a three month period. Please use the table below by selecting "printer friendly" at the top of this page and printing this page, then record the required details, continuing overleaf if necessary. The council can then assess the level of the problem and respond accordingly. Should it appear that the request is justified, there will be a charge of £25 to cover the cost of the installation and any future maintenance that may be required.
Please note that these markings have no legal standing but if a vehicle does park on them, the presence of the line could be used as evidence in support of a charge of obstruction.
To apply for keep clear markings, please complete and return the application form (pdf 70KB). To use this file you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this on your computer, please use our advice page.
