Permanent residents of Medway can apply if they are aged 60 or over.
In addition, people with the following disabilities may qualify for a free bus pass:
- blind or partially sighted;
- without speech;
- profoundly or severely deaf;
- with a learning disability;
- with a disability or having suffered an injury that has a large and long-term adverse effect on their ability to walk;
- without arms or having long-term loss of the use of both arms;
- any disability that would lead to someone being refused an application for a driving licence on medical grounds (other than as a result of persistent misuse of drugs or alcohol).
If there is uncertainty about who qualifies for disability reasons, the council will consult with the applicant's GP.
Companion pass
If you have difficulty travelling by yourself, you can apply for a companion pass which enables somebody to travel free of charge on the bus with you. However, please note that:
- free travel for the companion is only available for single journeys which start in the Medway Council area and
- there is a charge of £75 per annum for the issue of a companion pass.
