Community transport

The Villager is a community transport scheme for rural Medway.

It operates on a not-for-profit basis to provide a range of transport services for Medway's villages, including minibus hire for community groups and regular excursions to various destinations. Its drivers are mainly volunteers, which helps to keep prices as low as possible.

By operating with its own vehicles and volunteer drivers, a community transport scheme can provide lots of new not-for-profit bus services which existing bus companies are unable to provide. These services can also be a lot more flexible than normal buses, as the minibuses can divert from the main roads where required.

Community transport offers a great opportunity to meet the transport needs of rural residents.

Services

The Villager offers two main services:

Information pack

If you would like a copy of The Villager information pack, please use the contact details at the foot of the page.

Alternatively, you can download copies of the leaflets below.

To use these files you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this on your computer, please use our advice page. When returning these forms, please send them to the address at the foot of this page.

Out and About newsletter

The Villager produces a regular newsletter called Out and About, with the latest news on the project and details of services, including a schedule of forthcoming excursions.

To find out more about how The Villager can help you or to book a place on one of the services, please call using the contact details below.

The offices are open from 9.30am to 1pm, Monday to Friday with answerphone service during busy times.

New services

The Villager is always looking for new services to provide that might be useful for rural residents. These might include:

  • direct services for individual villages - for example, to nearby train stations or supermarkets in the centre of Medway;
  • buses for particular needs groups, such as those with disabilities;
  • school services for students living in isolated areas;
  • flexible route (dial-a-ride) services to various destinations;
  • evening services aimed at young people living in Medway's villages.

There are no limits to what the Villager might be able to achieve in the long term. If there are any new services which you would like to see in your village, please get in touch.
