Aerosols
Do not squash or pierce aerosols – they can explode. When empty, they should be put in your blue box or taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres.

Autumn leaves
These can be composted at home or put into your brown bin.

Bags
These can be put in your blue box or taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres.

Bathroom fittings and furniture
Bulky items can be collected using the council’s bulky collection service.

Batteries (car)

These can be taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres.

Batteries - all other types
This includes nickel-cadmium (NiCd), nickel metal hydride (NiMH) and lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries, which can be taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres.

Beds
Medway Council currently provide a free bulky refuse collection service.

Boilers
These can be taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres.

Bottles and jars
Plastic and glass bottles and jars can be put in your blue box or taken to any household waste and recycling centre. Glass bottles and jars can also be taken to one of the bring recycling sites (please remove the caps and lids).

Bricks and building rubble
This type of waste can be taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres and put in the hardcore container.

Brochures
These can be put in your blue box, taken to one of the paper banks at the bring recycling sites or to any of the household waste and recycling centres.

Bulky refuse
Medway Council offers a free bulky refuse collection service.

Flattened cereal boxes can be put in your blue box or taken to any household waste and recycling centre.

Chemicals - household
These can be taken to the Cuxton household waste and recycling centre only (please see the staff at the site first).

Christmas trees
These can be taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres or cut up and put in your brown bin or bags.

Clothing

Foil

These can be taken to any household waste and recycling centre or collected by Medway Council’s free bulky refuse collection service.

Furniture
This can be collected by Medway Council’s free bulky refuse collection service.

Garden chemicals
These should be taken to the Cuxton household waste and recycling centre only (please see the site staff first).

Garden waste
This can be put in your brown bin or bags, composted at home or taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres.

Gas cylinders
These should be taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres and put in the special containment area.

Glass (sheets)
These can be taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres for disposal in the general rubbish only. Please do not put this type of glass in the bottle and jar banks.

Glass bottles
These can be mixed in your blue box or bags with your other recycling material. Do not place a box or bag full of glass out for collection. Instead, either mix your glass with other materials to spread the weight or take excess bottles and jars to one of your local bring recycling sites or household waste and recycling centres (there are separate containers for clear, green and brown glass). Flat glass, drinking glasses or Pyrex cannot be recycled but must be placed securely in your refuse bin bags.

Grass cuttings
These can be put in your brown bin or bags, composted at home or taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres.

Greeting cards
These can be put in your blue box or taken to one of the paper banks at the bring recycling sites or at any of the household waste and recycling centres.

This can be taken to any of the household waste and recycling centres and put in the hardcore container.

Herbicides

Please use the contact details at the foot of this page to find the nearest chemist participating in the council’s diabetic needle exchange scheme or visit www.medwaypct.nhs.uk/NetsiteCMS/pageid/347/html.

Jars
Glass jars can be mixed in your blue box or bags with your other recycling materials. Do not place a box or bag full of glass jars and bottles out for collection but either mix the glass with other materials to spread the weight or take excess bottles and jars to your local bring recycling sites or household waste and recycling centres (there are separate containers for clear, green and brown glass).

Junk mail
This can be put in your blue box or taken to one of the bring recycling sites or any of the household waste and recycling centres.
