Medway Council is responsible for maintaining structural, mechanical and electrical equipment and systems to ensure the highest possible standards of safety on the highway.
It looks after bridges and highway structures to make sure they are in good condition and will last for as long as possible before having to be replaced. Not all bridges are owned by the council, so it also works closely with other bridge owners.
It repairs and maintains the 25,000 street lights and 3,000 illuminated signs and bollards in Medway.
The council maintains and repairs traffic and pedestrian lights to facilitate traffic flow and pedestrian safety. This work includes commissioning new traffic signal schemes after installation. It looks after the Medway Tunnel, making sure all systems work efficiently and effectively.
