Each year Medway Council implements local safety schemes. These schemes are aimed at reducing crashes in places where a number of accidents have occurred. The council tries to establish patterns in crashes to help resolve the problem.
Engineering measures are used to reduce the number of accidents. These measures include:
- improving crossings;
- better signing and road markings;
- resurfacing the road;
- traffic calming.
If you would like to make an enquiry about a dangerous road junction, please complete the online form.
All local safety schemes go through a very strict safety audit. This is done so that highway and safety measures are looked at from the viewpoints of all road users. The audit looks at:
- visibility;
- lighting;
- road surface;
- speed;
- maintenance;
- landscaping;
- the safety of pedestrians and cyclists;
- improving access for people with disabilities.
The schemes are then prioritised and dealt with as funding allows.
