Traffic management

The Traffic Management Unit is responsible for the movement of traffic in Medway and the general safety of all road users.

It is responsible for:

  • parking reviews;
  • disabled parking bays;
  • keep clear markings;
  • temporary traffic management;
  • events (traffic management aspects);
  • producing and publicising programmes of roadworks in Medway that are likely to cause traffic congestion;
  • monitoring work carried out on the highway by telecommunications, gas, electricity and water supply companies and private developers and calculating and agreeing fees and charges;
  • maintaining traffic lights, including pedestrian crossings;
  • temporary and permanent road closures;
  • traffic management schemes – traffic calming, speed limits;
  • signs – design and approval of new signs on the highway;
