Cleaning

Medway Council’s aim is to provide an effective street cleaning service throughout Medway, in accordance with the standards laid down in the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which require the council to clean more frequently in areas which have heavy pedestrian and traffic use than in areas which are not under the same pressures.

In addition to public highways, the council is responsible for cleaning public alleyways, car parks and other land under its control.

As part of routine cleaning, a programme for the treatment and removal of weeds is included, with a treatment schedule between February and October which covers the main growing season.
