Pests and diseases

The definition of a pest varies according to the environment and the nature of the classification. For example, the definition of a pest from a management perspective would be any species having an adverse effect on its inhabited environment, whereas from the natural environment perspective, pests will include exotic organisms.

The broadest definition of plant disease includes anything that damages plant health. This definition can include factors such as air pollution, insufficient nitrogen and pathogens.

The links at the top of this page and the Forestry Commission website (www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/hcou-4u4j4j) provide information on pests and diseases found on trees and imported timber.

To request the clearance of pests and diseases from a tree, please use the online form.
