A ban on the sale of 81 garden products came into effect at the end of July 2003, under the terms of the 1991 Plant Protection Products Directive (91/414/EEC) because the original manufacturers of the chemicals have decided not to carry out the required safety tests on these products under the European Directive.
Householders have been banned from using or storing these pesticides and Medway householders will have to dispose of the products at Cuxton household waste and recycling centre, which is the only site in Medway licensed to accept these chemicals.
The products include the popular Roseclear 2, used to control blackspot and other diseases on roses, and 71 types of weed killer. Banned products include those that contain:
- Dichlorprop;
- Dikegulac;
- Resmethrin;
- 2,3,6 – TBAk;
- Tar acids;
- Triforine.
Follow the link above for a list of the banned products.
