The refuge is based in Medway and is currently managed by Moat Housing Support Services (www.moat.co.uk/ResidentServices/hss/Pages/Default.aspx).

Ravi Refuge is a comfortable building and can house six women and their children for up to six months. The refuge has been carefully planned to meet the cultural, religious and linguistic needs of Asian women.

Facilities include:

  • communal lounge,
  • playroom,
  • two kitchens,
  • six bathrooms,
  • utility room,
  • garden.

The house is conveniently situated close to all local amenities, transport and schools. There is a PO box number for all correspondence. Residents have the use of a pay phone. The house is fitted with CCTV and panic alarms for assistance in case of emergency.

The refuge can offer support to six families at a time by:

  • providing safe and secure sheltered accommodation for residents, until they are ready to move on;
  • giving advice on legal, health and education matters;
  • helping to identify appropriate “move-on“ accommodation;
  • helping residents to claim welfare benefits;
  • putting women in contact with a solicitor for legal advice;
  • helping women find a school or nursery place for their children;
  • organising social events and activities for residents;
  • supporting women to re-establish themselves in the community when they leave the refuge.

Referrals can only be made by agencies, which should make contact through Moat Housing Support Services on 0845 600 1006.
