European programmes, town twinning and school exchanges are some of the ways to discover your neighbours in other counties. One of the most effective ways is to go and study on the other side of the Channel.
Medway’s universities
Sports sciences and games engineering are just two of the specialised training courses provided by Medway universities. Medway also has one of the best universities in England for law, as well as a new school of pharmacy, which allows students to gain an MPharm after a four year course. The Kent Law School (KLS) is one of the most famous in the United Kingdom and has a department in Medway where you can study for LLB (Legum Baccalaureat). It uses state-of-the-art technology, as all lectures are delivered electronically via the Internet. The university is also used internationally by those wanting to study French, German, Italian or Spanish law.
Côte d’Opale’s university centres
Côte d’Opale has managed to use its traditional assets to develop a diversified education programme for more than 10 years. Its strategic position has also led to European and international progress in the diplomas it delivers. At the university, you can train in mathematics, computer engineering, electronics or automation. Apart from the university, the Engineering School of Pas-de-Calais (EIPC) is located in Longuenesse. It delivers a diploma that is validated by the French Commission of Engineers. The training offers different specialisations in mechanical and industrial engineering.
The new European educational system has swept through universities. The three levels:
- Degree - three years at the university,
- Master - five years at the university,
- Doctorate - eight years after the A level,
represent a new organisation of the academic system. The objective is to model all the European diplomas on the same structure to make shifts of population easier and to open a larger job market.
Tips to study across the Channel
If you are interested in any of the Côte d’Opale’s courses or feel like studying in Medway, then you need to know that many partnerships and organisations can help you to arrange your trip, as well as finance it.
The University of Côte d’Opale (ULCO) is establishing important links with other partners, such as the University of Kent in Canterbury, Christ Church University College and the University of Greenwich. University exchanges are possible between these colleges within the context of diplomas like the FLE Master (French as foreign language) or the PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education).
The Transmanche University
Its purpose is to develop school twinning and co-operation between teachers, helping to foster mobility and above all, to implement a network of British and French colleges of higher education.
