The Medway Religious Education Agreed Syllabus

After a period of consultation, the agreed syllabus conference met on 6 February 2006 to discuss and vote on the final draft. With a few further amendments, the conference recommended that Medway Council should adopt the new syllabus. The implementation schedule began in June 2006 and training was arranged for Religious Education (RE) subject leaders and teachers over a one year period. It was expected that schools would have the new syllabus in place for the start of the academic year in September 2007.

Medway Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) would like the published version of its agreed syllabus to reflect the interesting things going on in RE in Medway schools. It would welcome either digital photographs or images that can be scanned that show children and young people involved in activities related to RE, either in school or on visits. Permission for children’s photographs to be used in a publication should be sought from parents.

Sometimes youngsters’ ideas expressed during RE lessons are thought-provoking and wise beyond their years. For instance, a six year old girl in a discussion on what gifts the class would give to baby Jesus said "I’d give him the heart of the world." If you have any written or spoken quotes on religious topics that touch the heart or show a child or young person’s insight into religion, Medway SACRE would be pleased to include them in the new syllabus.
