Revised public notice for the closure of Temple and Chapter Schools

Medway Council public notice to replace the public notice dated 11 April 2008

The proposals set out in this notice are published by Medway Council at the address at the foot of this page.

In accordance with s15(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 and the School Organisation (Establishment and Discontinuance of Schools) (England) Regulations 2007, Medway Council intends to discontinue:

Temple School
Cliffe Road
Strood
Kent ME2 3DL

and

Chapter School
Carnation Road
Strood
Kent ME2 2SX

on 31 August 2009.

The proposal to discontinue Temple and Chapter Schools is related to the creation of the new academy in Strood. Following the closure of both Temple and Chapter schools, it is proposed that all students from the two schools be transferred to the proposed new academy in Strood.

Medway Council has no proposed arrangements for the travel of displaced pupils, as all existing pupils of both Temple and Chapter Schools will be transferred to the new Strood academy, which will use the accommodation on the existing Chapter and Temple School sites from 1 September 2009 until 2011/2012.

Detailed admissions arrangements would still be in place for students with special educational needs (SEN), inclusion and exclusion. The academy would be driven by guidance on inclusion, thereby protecting the needs of those with SEN and other vulnerable groups.

All applicable statutory requirements to consult in relation to the proposals have been complied with.

Details of the proposal can be obtained from Simon Trotter, Assistant Director Learning and Achievement, Children and Adults - caring and learning, Medway Council, using the contact details at the foot of this page.

Within six weeks from the date of publication of this proposal, any person may object to or make comments on the proposal by sending them to Simon Trotter.

Signed: Rose Collinson, Director of Children and Adults - Caring and Learning.

Publication date: 12 May 2008.
