Healthy Schools Programme

By 2009 every school in the country should be taking part in the National Healthy Schools programme. This is an important project that brings together all aspects of the physical and emotional wellbeing of all school children, including healthy eating.

Medway Council's Healthy Schools Team believes it is important for children to develop a healthy attitude to food. It wants children to enjoy eating and to make healthy food choices that make them feel good about themselves.

It is working closely with schools and caterers to support them in the development of healthy school meals to ensure a healthy food choice is the easy choice for children to make.

If you would like to know more about healthy schools, please phone the Healthy Schools Team on 01634 332594.

The Catering Contracts Team

This Medway Council team has been working hard over the past few years to:

  • improve the dining areas in schools;
  • provide new kitchen equipment;
  • offer nutritional advice;
  • design training sessions to support school cooks in producing healthier menus;
  • ensure children receive healthy school meals that are good value for money, working with catering management teams and in partnership with Scolarest, the council's main school catering contractor.
