School term and holiday dates

The term dates below establish the 195 days that schools are legally obliged to open each academic year. The 195 days include five staff development days. Each school is free to decide which days within the 195 will be staff development days. Contact should be made with individual schools for information about their school calendar. These dates apply to community and controlled schools. Foundation and aided schools set their own dates, which may be different.

From September 2009, after further consultation with headteachers, this figure remains at 195 days for all community and controlled schools.
