The Special Educational Needs Team

Medway Council, as the local authority (LA), provides a Special Educational Needs (SEN) team. The assessment team is made up of the following:

  • assessment team manager;
  • one senior SEN officer;
  • seven SEN officers;
  • one finance and information officer;
  • one team co-ordinator.

Each SEN Officer is allocated a specific number of schools, which includes mainstream primary and secondary, special schools and units.

Every LA school in Medway has a named SEN officer to contact for support and advice.

The aim is to provide children with appropriate provision and ensure this placement provides for their needs adequately, so that they can achieve socially as well as academically, in school and in the community.

The SEN team also provides support and advice to parents and carers and engages in a multi-agency working approach.
