up arrow : go up one level Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy
Part 11 - Partnership with parents
11.1 Partnership with parents plays a key role in promoting a culture of co-operation between parents, schools, the local authority (LA) and others. This is important in enabling children and young people with SEN to achieve their potential.

11.2 The LA places great importance on transparency in all matters related to SEN. During any statutory process, parents will have access to appropriate written information and the opportunity to discuss their child's SEN with a named LA officer (or any other appropriate LA officer). Where appropriate, translation or interpretation facilities can be arranged.

11.3 Every effort will be made to explain any proposal or decision that has been reached by the LA and where possible, incorporate parental wishes in the arrangements made to meet a child's SEN.

11.4 Medway LA's Parent Partnership Scheme was set up to develop and improve communication and partnership between the Children and Adults Directorate, parents, children, schools and voluntary agencies. Medway Council has a contract with KIDS (www.kids-online.org.uk) a national charity, to provide this free service to parents in Medway.

11.5 A key objective is that parents can play a full and active role in the assessment of their child's needs, receiving appropriate advice from an independent source if necessary.
