The Medway Progression Compact

In addition to the formal courses and qualifications offered in Medway's schools and MidKent College, all Medway students have the opportunity to benefit from the Medway Progression Compact.

The concept of the Medway Progression Compact

The Medway Progression Compact represents an agreement by the University of Kent (www.kent.ac.uk), the University of Greenwich (www.gre.ac.uk), Canterbury Christ Church University (www.cant.ac.uk), the University for the Creative Arts at Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham, Maidstone and Rochester (www.ucreative.ac.uk) and MidKent College (www.midkent.ac.uk), all of whom have campuses in Medway. It recognises a wider range of activities and achievements for students from Medway secondary schools and colleges.

Benefits for students

The key benefits for students are:

  • a guaranteed offer on an appropriate programme or an interview for some courses with additional specifications, such as teaching and nursing;
  • increased self-esteem and awareness of their own capabilities through reviewing their own work and assembling evidence of achievement to gain Progression Compact accreditation;
  • support in key areas that will benefit them in preparing for higher education.

Benefits for schools and the college

The key benefits for schools and the college are:

  • improved prospects for appropriate students to progress to higher education;
  • effective preparation and support for the transition to higher education.

Benefits for the local universities

The key benefits for the local universities are:

  • the student intake is better prepared for student life;
  • increased retention rates;
  • stronger partnerships between local universities and the local community.

The value of the Medway Compact

A Medway student accredited through the Medway Progression Compact Award will have:

  • a guaranteed offer or an interview at any of the local universities;
  • up to 40 points contributing to the standard UCAS offer.

How the Medway Compact works

Medway Progression Compact points, equivalent to UCAS points and recognised as such by the universities in Medway, are awarded to any student who achieves in the following areas:

  • preparation for higher education;
  • skills for progression;
  • personal development.

Students are able to acquire up to 10 Medway points in each of the three Progression Compact areas. A student who has acquired 10 points in each area will be awarded a total of 40 Medway points. Credits cannot be transferred across the three categories. Students who secure credit in each category are accredited with the Progression Compact Award.
