What is it?

Strood Youth Centre provides a wide selection of activities for young people aged 10 years or more and a place where they can socialise and learn new skills. Professional, experienced youth workers from a range of different backgrounds offer information, support and advice on a range of issues.

What it does

The purpose of the work carried out at the Centre is to ensure that all young people can take part in activities that are educational, developmental and fun. This enables them to acquire knowledge in a formal and informal way and support them as they develop into responsible and caring citizens.

There is a variety of activities available. These include:

  • Duke of Edinburgh's Award,
  • Bhangra 4+4 with dhol drums,
  • sports and sports coaching,
  • football coaching,
  • quizzes,
  • karaoke,
  • art sessions.

Hot food is also available on certain days.

How it works

There are some rules and policies that people need to follow to ensure that everyone who comes to the Centre enjoys the experience and gets the best from it.

You can download a copy of the Strood Youth Centre leaflet (pdf, 372 KB), which contains all of the information on this page. To use this file you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this on your computer, please use our advice page

Equal opportunities

Medway Council has an equal opportunities policy. This means it aims to make its services available to everybody. You can help the council by respecting the needs and differences of all the other people who use the Centre.

Unacceptable behaviour

Persistent unacceptable behaviour can do many things. It can upset, offend or spoil it for others. It can even put others in danger. Therefore, the Centre has a policy to help control unacceptable behaviour and can suspend members from the Centre. Young people are asked to complete a membership record and will need to sign and conform to the code of conduct for the Centre. Personal information like gender, ethnicity, name and contact details is taken in strict confidence and will not be used outside the Centre. For more details about the policies, please ask staff at the Centre.
