Allotments

Take on an allotment for fresh, home-grown produce

Allotment sites provide a unique outdoor activity, combining both health and leisure. Allotments are part of Medway’s leisure facilities and the work you put in will keep you fit. As an extra reward, you will see the weekly shopping bills start to drop as you produce your own fresh vegetables and fruit.

As well as providing cheap fruit and vegetables, allotments also create an opportunity to make new friends with a similar interest. All kinds of people rent allotments and there is always someone on hand to give advice to newcomers and make them feel welcome.

The best time to start is in the autumn, when the plots can be dug over and prepared throughout the winter. However, many people only start getting enthusiastic when the spring arrives. It is, of course, still possible to produce excellent crops, plants and flowers by taking up a plot then.

Waiting list update

Many of the allotments are very popular and have a waiting list. Please use the contact details below or complete the online form to ask for a waiting list update.

How much will it cost?

For more information and to hire an allotment, please use the contact details below or complete the online form. Plots can be rented directly from the council for a small annual fee. Crops can be produced at a fraction of what would be charged at the greengrocers or supermarket. Other than the rent, all that needs to be invested is a few hours a week, the cost of a small selection of hand tools and a little bit of energy.

Allotments are available in various sizes. Larger plots may be shared.
