School visits to the country parks

Country parks offer a wide range of educational opportunities that tie in with National Curriculum Attainment Targets. Rangers are available to help co-ordinate and lead activities during visits.

Each park has its own unique character and habitats and this in turn dictates the variety of lesson topics it offers.

Capstone Farm Country Park

Capstone Farm Country Park covers 280 acres of open countryside, encompassing a variety of habitats, including hedgerows, chalk grassland, woodland and meadows. These provide a wealth of opportunities for hands-on learning for all ages.

Park facilities include:

  • an education room which can accommodate 60 people,
  • an established education programme,
  • environmental games, sampling equipment and worksheets,
  • toilets,
  • adventure playground,
  • picnic areas,
  • a network of trails.

Riverside Country Park

Riverside Country Park covers 200 acres of open countryside, encompassing a variety of habitats, including grassland, ponds, foreshore and inter-tidal mudflats. These provide a wealth of opportunities for hands-on learning for all ages.

Park facilities include:

  • an education room which can accommodate 50 people,
  • an established education programme,
  • sampling equipment and worksheets,
  • toilets,
  • adventure playground,
  • picnic areas,
  • a network of trails,
  • iron age village.
