Chinese New Year Celebrations - The Year of the Tiger
Photo of Chinese New Year celebrations

2010 is the Chinese year of the Tiger, which began on 14 February.

People born in the Year of the Tiger are said to be sensitive, given to deep thinking and capable of great sympathy. They can be extremely short-tempered, however. Other people have great respect for them but sometimes tiger people come into conflict with older people or those in authority. Sometimes Tiger people cannot make up their minds, which can result in a poor, hasty decision or a sound decision arrived at too late. They are suspicious of others but they are courageous and powerful.

The celebration of the Chinese New Year in Medway has emerged from a small Chinese community event into the third largest celebration of its kind in the United Kingdom, involving the whole Medway community in a grand street parade with dragons, lions and more than 250 people, in costumes especially imported from China. The celebrations take place in Chatham town centre.

This year the Medway celebrations took place on Saturday, 13 and Sunday, 14 February.
