Young musicians take castle by storm

A new event took place on Sunday, 20 July, from 12.30 to 3pm in Rochester Castle Gardens, with a format that gave young music performers – bands and individuals – a chance to take the same stage that was used on the previous four nights for the annual Castle Concerts.

Young musicians aged 11-18 years from across Medway auditioned in front of the organisers and mentors of Training Them Live, a local music project, for the opportunity to take part in this amazing event. The afternoon showcased a wide range of genres, including classical, pop, rock, blues and r 'n' b, making this an event for everyone.

The concert was free to attend and open to all ages. Food and soft drinks were available and there were a number of marquees with other items for sale.

Photo competition

Capture a moment that will last a lifetime

Picture the scene: stunning Rochester Castle overlooking the winding River Medway; the grounds bustling with people; local bands and performers playing live on stage - a great opportunity to capture amazing moments on camera.

What did you have to do?

People were asked to send in their favourite still photo that they took at the Under Siege concert, whether it is of a band performing or their friends and family having a good time.

We are looking for an image that captures the pure essence of what Under Siege was about.

If you sent in a picture, you could be in with a chance of winning a fabulous prize - it really is as simple as that. You can be any age to take part – we’re looking for pictures from children, young people and adults.

The winner will receive a digital camera and the runner-up will win £20 of Zavvi gift vouchers.

The competition closed at 5pm on Friday, 8 August

The council will contact the winner and runner-up by the end of August. Check the terms and conditions for more details.
