You can search for job vacancies online using the network of computers in each library. Medway Council offers free internet access and use of Microsoft Office 2000 in all libraries. You can use the computers to fill in application forms, write a curriculum vitae (CV) and covering letters, and email your CV to a company or to research the company before your interview.

Jobsmatch and other support agencies

Library staff will also be able to find details of support agencies that may be able to help you with your job search.

Training

Library staff can help locate information about local training and courses at a variety of levels, for all ages and abilities. Libraries also hold details of all the Medway Adult Learning Service courses and a variety of titles on a wide range of careers available for loan to registered borrowers.

Researching companies

If you wish to send companies your CV or enquire about possible vacancies, libraries have industry directories which are useful for contact details. Library staff can also help you research company information in preparation for your interview. In particular, they can provide financial information about any limited company in the UK or Ireland.

Self-employment

If you are considering self-employment, the Library Service subscribes to an electronic resource called Cobweb, which gives in-depth information on a wide range of trades, jobs, professions and services.

Useful links

  • Jobs and job hunting websites - a selection of websites on the Library Links website, selected by local librarians. These list sites with vacancies, as well as more general job-hunting information and tips.
