Medway Sports Development Team always tries to support local sports coaches by providing them with the tools and services they need to become better coaches through continuing professional development. This may be done by attending coach forums, workshops or by gaining funding to enhance their coaching qualifications.

The leaflet Club and Coach Education Workshops April 200 - March 2010 (pdf 949KB) contains an application form for the current series of workshops. You can download and print it but to use this file, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have it on your computer, please use our advice page.

UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC)

The UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) (www.ukcoachingcertificate.org) is an endorsement of sport-specific coach education qualifications that are aligned to an agreed framework. By creating a recognised standard for coach education, the UKCC will make it easier to identify a good quality coach in any sport at any level and contribute immeasurably to the professionalisation of coaching.

31 sports have been invited to be part of the UKCC:

  • Angling
  • Badminton
  • Canoeing
  • Equestrian
  • Gymnastics
  • Karate
  • Netball
  • Rowing
  • Sailing
  • Table tennis
  • Volleyball
  • Archery
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Mountaineering
  • Orienteering
  • Rugby league
  • Squash
  • Tennis
  • Athletics
  • Bowls
  • Cycling
  • Golf
  • Judo
  • Movement and dance
  • Rounders
  • Rugby union
  • Swimming
  • Triathlon

What does the UKCC mean for coaches?

  • The creation of nationally-recognised standards for coach education will professionalise the role of the coach. Most professional industries have a standard for qualification - now coaching does too.
  • The UKCC will raise the profile of sports coaching.
  • A UK-wide qualification means it is easier for coaches to move between England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales and gain employment as a coach.
  • The transferable elements of core parts of UKCC qualifications mean it will be easier to move between sports.
  • It will be easier for coaches to highlight their level of coaching skill to potential employers.
