On Tuesday 7 November 2006, 31 Medway primary schools took part in the Medway Messenger Mini Youth Games Tag Rugby Tournament at Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School, with over 300 children participating in an all-action day of tag rugby and fun.

Each school played eight matches against other schools and the placings were decided on a league table basis, including the Fair Play Award.

Although it was a dry day, it was cold but this did not stop the children playing in a friendly atmosphere and schools participated in a co-operative spirit of competition.

The Sports Development Team was delighted to have the Mayor of Medway, Cllr Angela Prodger, to present the awards as well as watch a few games herself.

The most prestigious award of the tournament, the Fair Play Award, went to Kingfisher Primary School, who played well as a team, supported their team mates whether they won or lost and respected their opponents, the referees and officials. The school won a shield, key rings, t-shirts and an ability sports bag full of rugby equipment for the school.

The day would not have been possible without the tremendous support from the numerous volunteers who gave their time to help and support the event. These included the Medway Active Communities Volunteers, students from the Rugby Academy at Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School and eight adults from Medway Rugby Club who gave up their time.
