Nearly 300 children from 29 Primary schools across Medway had a fantastic day competing in the Mini Youth Games Tag Rugby Festival on Tuesday, 13 November 2007.

The Sports Development Team were delighted to have the Mayor of Medway Councillor Val Goulden present the awards as well as watching a few games herself.

Each school played 10 matches against other schools and the placings were decided on a league table basis, including the Fair Play award.

Although it was cold. damp day this didn’t stop the children playing in a friendly atmosphere and schools participated in a co-operative spirit of competition. After many close matches, Sherwin Knight Junior School just pipped Parkwood Junior School to the title. Both schools won all 10 matches they played, but Sherwin Knight just had a superior Try difference. St Andrews finished third and were also the Best Placed Small School.

The most prestigious award of the tournament, the Fair Play Award, was awarded to Kingfisher Primary School who played well as a team, supported their team mates whether they won or lost and respected their opponens, umpires and officials. The Fair Play School won a shield, yo-yos, t-shirts and an ability sports bag full of rugby equipment for the school. Parkwood - MYG Tag Rugby Runners-Up
Medway Rugby Club volunteers The day would not have been possible without the tremendous support from the numerous volunteers. These included eight Medway Rugby Coaches who had taken annual leave from work to ref at the event and they were supported by young students from various schools across Medway.

The next Mini Youth Game event in the series is the Swimming gala on 31 January at the Black Lion Leisure Centre.

If you would like any information on how to get involved in rugby please contact the Sports Development Team.
