Medway Council's Adoption Agency provides a full adoption service under the Adoption Agency Regulations 1983, the Adoption Agencies and Children (Arrangements for Placements and Reviews) (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 1997 and national targets. The Adoption Agency provides the best possible service and opportunities to the children who need new adoptive homes by acknowledging the diverse and complex nature of society and by welcoming applications from a wide range of people who wish to adopt.
The Adoption Agency provides a counselling and advisory service to all the parties involved in adoption, as required under the regulations. Within the service provided by the Agency, there are two main functions:
- to find adoptive homes for the children who are to be placed for adoption through Medway Council,
- to recruit, assess, prepare and support people who apply to become adoptive parents through Medway Council.
