Adoption advice

Medway Council offers:

  • adoption counselling for birth parents;
  • mediation in contact arrangements;
  • consultation and counselling for grandparents or other birth relatives;
  • support for adoptive parents and their children;
  • help for adults who were adopted and now want to find out about their origins;
  • advice and counselling on adoption for expectant mothers (on request);
  • advice for step-families considering adoption;
  • friends and family assessments for people considering offering a permanent home to a child known to them;
  • information on adopting children from other countries;
  • telephone and face-to-face advice from trained Post-Adoption Centre counsellors with:

    • monthly surgeries in Chatham for adoptive families, birth parents and adult adoptees;
    • a confidential advice line on which surgery appointments can be made.
