Who is on the adoption panel?

  • An independent chairperson with substantial experience of working with children and families.
  • An independent vice-chairperson with equivalent experience in adoption services.
  • One member of the council’s Children and Adults Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
  • An adoptive parent.
  • A senior health visitor.
  • An independent member with professional experience of adoption social work.
  • A senior manager from children's social care.
  • A senior medical officer from the local health service.
  • A council legal adviser.

What does the panel do?

The adoption panel recommends whether:

  • prospective adopters should be approved,
  • children should be placed for adoption,
  • particular adopters are the right family for a particular child.
