Information for approved social workers

Medway Council is pleased to hear from approved social workers who are looking for a match with adopters approved by their agencies, particularly if they have adopters who have been approved by their agency's decision-maker and they are available now. Please contact the duty adoption worker.

The council is particularly keen to locate permanent families for older children, children with special needs and children with a mixed heritage. There is also a number of children currently in care proceedings where the council is exploring the availability of families.

Medway Council is a member of the South East Adoption Consortium and many of its approved adopters have children placed from other parts of the south-east.

Most of the children have been neglected before coming into foster care. They will require continuing help as they grow up, because of delayed development and/or the effects of past abuse. Some of the children have learning difficulties and/or health problems. Some children have physical disabilities or carry a risk of an inherited condition.

The council is looking for families for several sibling groups. It also needs adopters who are able to take children from sibling groups where their needs are such that they cannot be placed with other children but where contact needs to be maintained throughout their childhood.

Some children may attract continuing financial support.
