Fly-tipper ordered to pay thousands after dumping rubbish in Medway

A fly-tipper has been ordered to pay more than £3,000 after he admitted dumping waste in Medway.

Dan Abraham, of Mill Road, Gillingham, pleaded guilty to two counts of fly-tipping in Grange Road, Lower Twydall, and Formby Road, Halling, and two counts of transporting controlled waste without being registered at Medway Magistrates Court on Monday, 18 December.

Magistrates fined the 30-year-old £1,500 for fly-tipping and a further £500 for transporting controlled waste without being registered.

Abraham was also ordered to pay costs of £1038.52. The landowners were also awarded compensation totalling £200.

Cllr Jane Chitty, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder covering enforcement, said: “This man has been ordered to pay thousands of pounds after he was caught dumping rubbish in Medway. Fly-tipping is unpleasant and causes distress for residents. It is unacceptable and Medway Council is committed to investigating fly-tipping incidents and anyone found to be dumping rubbish in Medway will be prosecuted.”
