Remembrance events in Medway

Remembrance services will be held across Medway to remember fallen servicemen and women between Saturday, 11 November and Sunday, 12 November. The Council will be represented at the following events which commemorate members of the armed forces who have lost their lives in wars and conflicts around the world. The events are not organised by the council. 

Saturday, 11 November:

10.45am

Victoria Gardens, Chatham: A short service and wreath laying ceremony, to be attended by the Mayor of Medway.

Sunday, 12 November:

9am

Royal Naval Service at the war memorial, Great Lines, Gillingham: The Mayor and the Chief Executive will attend a short service and wreath laying ceremony. Mayor to lay a wreath.

10am

Medway Park memorial, Gillingham: A short service and wreath laying ceremony followed by a March Past and Salute to St Mark’s Church for a service of remembrance. Deputy Mayor to lay a wreath.

10 am

Victoria Gardens, Chatham: A parade will begin from Richard Street, behind Debenhams in Chatham High Street, to Victoria Gardens where there will be a service. Cllr Maple to lay a wreath. Residents are reminded that due to the parade, Chatham will have a road closure operation in place.

10.15am

St Margaret’s Church: A service of remembrance will be held at the church. The Deputy Leader is then due to lay a wreath at Rainham War Memorial.

10.50am

Rochester Cathedral: The Mayor, Councillors and other dignitaries will parade from the Guildhall Museum, in the High Street, to Rochester Cathedral and join the service of remembrance. The Mayor, Chief Executive and the Leader will then lay wreath at the Cenotaph in the High Street.

11am

Brompton War Memorial, Wood Street, Brompton: Wreath laying ceremony. Cllr Mrs Diane Chambers to lay a wreath.

Free parking until 3pm

There will be free parking on Sunday, 12 November, until 3pm, in the following car parks: Rhode Street (which will be closed for the parade to form), James Street and Riverside car parks in Chatham, the Cricketers car park in Rainham, the Blue Boar Lane, Cathedral and Corporation Street car parks in Rochester and Medway Park car park in Gillingham.
