Statements on the Medway Test delay

10 October 2017

Statement from Councillor Andrew Mackness

Cllr Andrew Mackness, Portfolio Holder for Children's Services at Medway Council, said: "Firstly I'd like to apologise to all of the families and young children who were left waiting for their results. It is extremely disappointing that an IT issue caused a delay in nearly 3,000 emails being sent directly to families and I completely understand the anxiety this caused. We are carrying out a complete review of how this happened, including looking at our IT systems, and we are determined that families will not have to endure this disappointment again. Every family had received their email by Tuesday morning.”

Statement from Councillor Martin Potter

Cllr Martin Potter, Portfolio Holder covering Educational Attainment and Improvement at Medway Council, said: “I'd like to apologise to the families of the children who went to bed last night without knowing their Medway Test results.

"This was a totally unacceptable position for families to be in and I have been assured this IT issue will be addressed as part of the transformation programme, which is looking to improve the way the council offers services.

"In the next couple of weeks families across Medway will be making a very important choice about the schools they feel are best suited for their child and I wish them all the very best in the transition from primary to secondary education."
