Minister praises battle commemorations

21 April

Medway will be welcoming visitors from far and wide in June, as the 350th anniversary of the Battle of Medway is commemorated through a fortnight of events, including spectacular displays, one off exhibitions and VIP visits.

Minister for Sport, Tourism and Heritage Tracey Crouch said of the upcoming commemorations:

“The Battle of Medway commemorations will bring to life one of the landmark events in the history of the UK. It's an excellent example of what our heritage sector leads the world in, telling stories in richly imaginative ways. With thousands of people from the UK and abroad due to visit during the festival, it will truly put Medway on the Map.”

The battle, in which the Dutch launched a daring assault on the English, has great national and international significance due to its momentous consequences impacting the British economy.
