Wild Willy to get folks in a flap at Medway Folk Cellar

Date: 29/04/2008           Category: Arts and Libraries

Multi-instrumentalist and cult folk hero Wild Willy Barrett brings his Sleeping Dogz to Medway Folk Cellar, at The Central Theatre, Chatham on Tuesday, 6 May, 8pm. Barrett is best known for his collaborations with John Otway and has the ability to play slide guitar with a whole raw egg. Equally able on fiddle and a variety of other stringed instruments, Barrett formed Sleeping Dogz after seeing a belly-dancing-troupe at a local pub. Wild Willy wagged his tail at the backing band and was soon joined by the classically trained Mary Holland on cello, harmonium and vocals and John Devine on uilleann pipes, flute, harmonium and an array of percussion. Barrett plays dextrous blues, neo-Spanish jazz, rock and folk with aplomb. He is also credited with playing guitar, fiddle and singing on Rolph Harris’s version of Stairway to Heaven. Tickets are £7, folk mailing list members and Friends of The Central Theatre £6. To book call the box office on 01634 338338, email boxoffice@medway.gov.uk or visit www.medway.gov.uk.
