Markets combine to give shoppers more choice

Date: 20/05/2008           Category: Tourism

Rochester’s weekly market is to be merged with the popular farmers’ market from June. The combined markets will give shoppers a wider range of goods from fashion to plants to jams and preserves. The reorganisation will also give traders a broader customer base similar to that which visits Medway’s other successful markets in Strood and Gillingham. The last weekly market in Rochester is Friday, 6 June. The next farmers’ market is Sunday, 15 June when the two will be combined. The farmers’ market is located at Corporation Street car park on the third Sunday of every month from 8am to 1pm. Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Strategic Development and Economic Growth Cllr Jane Chitty said: "This is a positive move to revive Rochester Market and it’s sensible that traders have the opportunity to work together. “Our markets in Medway continue to thrive and grow at Gillingham and Strood. They are both good examples of lively, enterprising and social markets.”
