Cycle Round Capstone event

Date: 21/05/2008           Category: Greenspaces

Get on your bike, get fit and have fun at Capstone Park’s new mountain bike track. On Saturday, 21 June from 10am to 2pm keen cyclists are being encouraged to take part in the Cycle Round Capstone event. Organised as part of national Bike Week, cyclists of all ages and abilities can try out the park’s new 2.5 mile mountain bike track. The events field will also be open on the day and is ideal for cyclists who prefer an easier ride – the surface is relatively flat and better for general cycling. At 12noon, the Cyclist Touring Club will be leading a cycle ride of approx five miles from Capstone. This route will be on roads leading to and from the park. Cycle Round Capstone is an event the whole family can enjoy. Face painting, jugglers and an ice-cream van will keep children entertained. Medway Council's Portfolio Holder for Community Services Cllr Howard Doe said: "This is an excellent opportunity for the whole family to get out together, enjoy some exercise and have fun. I would encourage everyone to pop along to Capstone and have a go." Bikes and helmets will not be provided; cyclists will need to bring their own. Everyone taking part must wear a helmet. The event will be staffed by park rangers while Medi Aid will provide first-aid assistance if necessary. On the day, visitors to the park will be able to pick up health tips from the council’s Public Health Team and find out about local cycle groups and cycling safety.
