Lupen Crook and The Long Weekend to headline in Gillingham

Date: 22/05/2008           Category: Arts and Libraries

Part of FUSE MEDWAY FESTIVAL – Saturday, 31 May to Saturday, 14 Jun Local musicians Lupen Crook and The Long Weekend will play separate headline slots at The Sunlight Centre, Gillingham, on Friday, 6 June. Part of the Fuse Medway Festival, the night begins at 7.30pm. Cool enough not to care about his appearance on the NME's end-of-year cool list, Lupen Crook casts acoustic waves with malevolent intent. Often filed as underground folk, Mr Crook is equally and honestly disdainful of such tags and pref4ers to describe his music as dead-dog blues or the sound of a butterfly dying. His first album, Accidents Occur Whilst Sleeping, received critical acclaim from the national music press and the 2008 follow-up, Iscariot the Ladder, is set to do the same. Joint headliners are The Long Weekend. The six-piece deliver clashed riffs with a syncopated urgency that is reminiscent of Strummer at his best. The Sunday Times called the band's single, Record, brilliant and they are shortly due to play Alan Mcgee's Death Disco. Support will come from one of Medway's up-and-coming young bands. Tickets are £5. To book, phone box office on 01634 338338, email boxoffice@medway.gov.uk or visit www.fusefestival.org.uk. Fuse Medway Festival is a celebration of arts and creativity in Medway.
