Media Invite: Date: Wednesday, 4 June Time: 2.30 to 4pm Location: Town Hall Gardens, Whiffens Avenue, Chatham Photo opportunity: There will be an opportunity to take a picture of the group burying the capsule and Cllr Chitty cutting the first sod. The present will be buried for future generations when a time capsule celebration takes place in the Town Hall Gardens, off Whiffens Avenue, Chatham on Wednesday, 4 June. The idea for the capsule came from members of Project Reignite's My Space Regenerated art group when they visited the gardens as part of the project led by New Art Centre artist Fiona Watt. Fiona said: "The group was fascinated by the history of Medway that the gardens contained. They came up with the idea of making a time capsule that would contain their memories of the project and their ideas of how they might like to see the gardens change in the future." Members of the group will be preparing the ground for the event from 10.30am. They have invited local councillors and representatives from funding organisations and would warmly welcome local residents to attend the event from 2.30 to 4pm on Wednesday, 4 June. Kaz Macklin, Medway Council’s Neighbourhood Manager for Brook Lines, Chatham, said: “It is a celebration of all that they have achieved on the three art projects they have participated in so far and a way of saying thank you to all the residents, project managers and funders who have supported them.” The contents of the capsule are to remain a secret, preserved for Brook Lines’ residents of the future to discover. The project has been funded by Medway Council’s Project Reignite, Medway Renaissance, Chatham World Heritage and the Brook Lines Residents’ Action Group.
