Deanwood Primary Education Technology School Ofsted

Date: 02/06/2008           Category: Learning and Achievement

Care and support that help pupils develop good personal qualities are among the best features of Deanwood Primary Education Technology School cited in its latest Ofsted report, which rates the school as ‘satisfactory’ overall. You are invited to send a photographer and/or reporter to the school, on Long Catlis Road, Gillingham, at 10am on Wednesday 4 June to meet the pupils and staff at work. There are 174 pupils aged 4 to 11 years old. Most parents are positive about the school’s work, the report states, noting its ‘open-door’ approach and commenting favourably on how well staff know their children. It lists typical parent remarks, such as: “It is a lovely school – it has a community feel about it”; and “every effort is being made to ensure children are happy”. Pupils were also found to enjoy coming to school, and to have a good understanding of how to keep safe and lead healthy lifestyles. They contribute well to their school and local community too, according to the report. The school was rated ‘good’ for the effectiveness of its Foundation Stage, and for pupils’ personal development and well-being. Under the effective and determined leadership of the headteacher, the school is steadily improving, the inspector found, and shows signs of becoming a better school, because there is a “clear focus” on raising standards further. Headteacher Robin Halls said: “I’m pleased that our good qualities have been recognised in this report, and that’s thanks to the hard work of everyone here. We are committed to further improving standards throughout the school for the benefit of all our pupils.” Director of Children’s Services Rose Collinson added: “I am very pleased that the report reflects the work being done by the headteacher and his staff team, parents, governors and pupils to make Deanwood a good self-improving school with a community feel, where children can develop and flourish and increasingly are making progress and achieving.“
