Underground encounters at Rochester Castle Gardens

Date: 03/06/2008           Category: Arts and Libraries

PART OF FUSE MEDWAY FESTIVAL - Saturday, 31 May to Saturday, 14 June Relive and reexamine those awkward London Underground moments in spectacular fashion, as Motionhouse Dance Theatre performs Underground at Rochester Castle Gardens on Friday, 13 June, 7.30pm. Within a rotating, rocking tubular structure, four dancers use physical dance, imagery and surprising aerial encounters to explore the new reality of train travel. The intimacy of a crowded carriage. Someone sleeping on your shoulder. The crush of personal space or ignoring fellow humans. A sleeping reader is assailed by the dark foes from fiction as a graffiti artist paints his love in motion. Suspended at odd angles and riding the rhythm of the train, four characters are constantly thrown together and then torn apart again. Underground is attention-grabbing, edge of your seat and in-your-face dancing, performed by a company that has been voted as the nation's favourite at the National Dance Awards and regularly attracts new fans that have never previously been interested in dance. Tickets cost just £4. to book, phone box office on 01634 338338, email boxoffice@medway.gov.uk or visit www.fusefestival.org.uk. Fuse Medway Festival is a celebration of arts and creativity in Medway.
