A Gillingham nursery school has won high praise from Government inspectors in their latest report. Kiddiwinks pre-school, based at the Methodist church hall in Third Avenue, was found be outstanding at all levels by Ofsted. This included the quality of teaching and learning is outstanding, as well as the environment in which children learn. They benefit from a warm, caring atmosphere helping them feel emotionally secure and have a close relationship with staff, chatting with them easily. They are confident to ask for help when they need assistance. Children's good health is promoted in premises that are bright, welcoming and maintained to a good standard of hygiene and cleanliness. Independence is fostered and youngsters are comfortable about making choices. The range of resources is carefully chosen and there is equipment that develops all areas of learning. Staff have an excellent understanding of how the youngest children learn and provide them with a range of activities that follow their interest and enable them to explore and experiment. They listen carefully to what children say and take note of what they show enthusiasm about. Children are encouraged to be creative. They have good opportunities to make discoveries about a range of natural materials using all of their senses. Behaviour is excellent, and youngsters learn the difference between right and wrong because of the boundaries applied by staff, with desirable behaviour given praise. Staff are kept well up to date with regular training updates. Nursery manager Helen Ellis-Adams said: “I’m delighted to see the commitment and teamwork of staff, parents and children reflected in this excellent report. We can all take huge pride in the findings. “We’re committed to giving all Kiddiwinks children the best possible start in life and the inspectors’ comments give us great encouragement for the future.” Medway Council's Director of Children’s Services Rose Collinson added: “An outstanding judgement is a brilliant outcome for children and families. I congratulate everyone involved with this great result. At Kiddiwinks nursery youngsters are thriving personally and academically. This glowing report is very well deserved.”
