Date: 19/06/2008           Category: Leisure

Please ignore previous press release and use this one. Thank you. Some of Medway’s talented young musicians are celebrating the announcement of a unique concert set to take place at Rochester Castle Gardens. Under Siege will be a free event on Sunday, 20 July, performed by young people from Medway aged from 11 and 18. Medway Council is organising the concert, working with local music organizations who are signing up the performers who will take part. The event will form part of the Castle Concerts this summer, which means that for the first time in the event’s history, young people will have the chance to follow in the footsteps of Status Quo, Jools Holland & his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, the Soul Party and the Castle Proms. All the acts will be able to perform on the same full-sized stage, with professional equipment and the support of a professional crew. Some of the musicians taking part got together at Greenacre School, Walderslade, this week, and met Leader of the council, Cllr Rodney Chambers and Cllr Howard Doe, Portfolio Holder for Community Services. Cllr Chambers said: “It will be great to see the young musicians take over the castle gardens for the afternoon - the event will be a marvellous celebration of all the young talent Medway is home to. “This extension to the Castle Concerts season is fantastic news and is further evidence of the council’s commitment to developing Medway’s cultural calendar. “Young people are at the heart of this and I thoroughly look forward to July’s performances.”
