Medway Council’s new staff headquarters officially opened Medway Council’s new administrative headquarters at Gun Wharf in Chatham were officially opened on Thursday 26 June. Mr. Allan Willett, CMG, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Kent, was greeted by the Leader of Medway Council, Cllr Rodney Chambers and Chief Executive Neil Davies. Speaking to Medway Council staff in the building’s reception, Mr. Willett said, “This move comes at a very exciting time for Medway, and I think the Council is doing a wonderful job. Medway is a great place to live and work and there's never been a better time to move the council's offices. Medway is making great strides - there's the university devolvement and the bid to gain World Heritage status - and these are all a taste of things to come." Mr. Willett then unveiled a plaque to declare the Gun Wharf offices open, before taking a tour of the building and chatting with members of staff at their desks. Cllr Chambers said, “Our staff are very dedicated to giving a great service to the community and it is right that we provide them with the best work facilities we can to serve Medway the best they can. I think everyone will agree that we have done that here. It will save us £1million a year and this is money that will be used to extend the many services Medway Council provides.” Customers wishing to access the council’s services in Chatham should visit the Contact Point at Riverside 1, Dock Road, Chatham, Monday to Thursday, 8.30am-5.15pm, Friday 8.30am to 4.45pm.
