Simon rounds off a series of sellouts at The Central Theatre

Date: 04/07/2008           Category: Arts and Libraries

The Central Theatre closed the curtains on its spring and summer season at the weekend with Never Mind the Buzzcocks presenter Simon Amstell, who played to a sellout audience of delighted young fans, around half of whom were visiting the theatre for the first time. With an auditorium that can seat 960 people while retaining an intimate atmosphere, the theatre is attracting some of the biggest names in stand up comedy, and has already sold out shows with Russell Howard, Jimmy Carr and Dara O' Briain earlier in the year. The introduction of dance spectacular Simply Ballroom left barely a seat free in April, followed by an afternoon with children’s favourite Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs, which filled the venue to capacity. The venue is also attracting a growing number of attendances for its Act Now season of touring drama, with average attendances increasing by around 30% over the past two years. The theatre will shortly be screening its family film season over the summer holidays, while the autumn line up of entertainment will be announced with the new brochures in August.
