Date: 17/07/2008           Category: Arts and Libraries

A kung fu fighting panda, a lonely robot and chimps in space are all on the bill during family film season at The Central Theatre this summer. The latest blockbusters will be screened during July and August at great value for money. The action begins with The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (PG), from Friday, 25 July to Thursday, 31 July. The second instalment of CS Lewis' Narnia stories sees the four children whisked back into the magical world to help the prince in his struggle against his wicked uncle. Kung Fu Panda (PG) takes over for two weeks from Friday, 1 August to Thursday, 14 August, with Jack Black as the voice of Po, a young panda that dreams of being a kung fu star but seems to be better at chopping veggies than he is blocks. From the creators of Finding Nemo, the film Wall-E (U) is an environmental fable with laughs for adults and children alike. Hundreds of years into the future, after mankind has abandoned the earth, Wall-E, the last remaining robot, is left to clean up the rubbish with only a cockroach for a friend. Wall-E will be screened at the theatre from Friday, 15 August to Thursday, 28 August. The final film in the season is Space Chimps (U), from Friday, 29 August to Thursday, 4 September. Ham III, the grandson of the first chimp astronaut, is blasted off into space with the mission to rid a far-away planet of its tyrannical leader. Ticket prices for all films are £3.75 for adults and £3 for children for screenings throughout the day. There are also concessionary prices of £3 for Senior Citizens and Friends of The Central Theatre. Please note no films will be showing on Sundays and bank holiday Monday, 25 August.
