Medway Council funds Arriva’s new venture

Date: 04/08/2008           Category: Highways Traffic and Parking

Medway Council has saved a bus route between Rainham and Chatham by funding the threatened 120 / 121 service. Nu-Venture is withdrawing the service between Otterham Park, Rainham and Chatham from Friday, 8 August. From Monday, 11 August, Arriva will pick up passengers on the 120 / 121 route from Mondays to Fridays. The weekday service will work to a similar timetable to that provided by Nu-Venture. However, there will not be a bus at 3.20 pm from Chatham, as research suggests that very few people used this particular route. Most journeys will run via Medway Maritime Hospital and Gillingham. There will be other detail changes to the timetable. As a result of this change, the stop in Chatham will move from Military Road to Bay 8 inside the Pentagon Bus Station. Portfolio Holder for Frontline Services, Cllr Phil Filmer said: “I am pleased that an agreement has been reached between the council and Arriva for the benefit of residents. We should be encouraging people to use public transport and it was important for us to ensure we replaced this threatened service.” For further information about Arriva bus services go online to www.arrivabus.co.uk
