Media Invite: Medway achieves South East Charter for Member Development

Date: 08/08/2008           Category: Learning and Organisation Development

Medway Council has become the first council in Kent to achieve the South East Charter for Member Development. The South East Charter has been developed by South East Employers, in partnership with the Improvement and Development Agency. It is based on the well established and successful North West Employers’ Charter regional Member Development Charter, which all councils in that region have made a commitment to. The Charter is committed to developing Elected Members in order to achieve the council’s aims and objectives, which includes a member learning and development plan. There are five key stages in working towards the South East Charter on Elected Member Development; signing up to the Charter and forming an action plan, improving the development of elected members, assessment, awarding the charter and finally, re-assessment. Medway Council’s Learning and Development team submitted a portfolio of evidence to South East employers in June 2006. An on-site assessment was carried out by a team of Elected Members/Officers of South East Employers, and the council was informed of its success at the end of May this year. Please join us for a presentation of the certificate to Medway Council on Thursday, 21 August, at 1pm in the Mayor’s Conference Room, Medway Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham. Cllr Mrs Janice Bamber, Portfolio Holder for Customer First and Corporate Services will be in attendance.
